Down 1st XI vs Lisnagarvey 6th XI - 28th October 2017

Down travelled Lisnagarvey at the weekend to play their sixth XI in the League. Down welcomed back Conrad Walker to the side who appeared focused from the start of the game. Conrad made his presence felt midway through the first half; collecting the ball in the circle and giving a cleaver pass to McKee who slipped it past the 'keeper to open his account.

Garvey responded with a period of pressure on the Down defence, but with Ringland steadying the ship the home side found now way through. Shortly after the re-start McKee gained his second of the day, picking the ball up from outside the 25 yard line he skipped past four defenders before sending the keeper the wrong way to put the ball in the back of the net. Down pressed forward full of confidence and Kyle Patterson delivered a pin point cross to Conrad who used his strength in the circle to brush off a defender and unleashed a powerful shot which forced a great reaction save from the Garvey keeper.

Philip Brown had to step into a kicking back role after Down's Keeper received a green card for an infringement with the umpire, McCready was talking when he should have been listening. With a now vulnerable defence, Down stayed on the attack and Mark Elliot skilfully won a short corner. McKee pushed the ball out to Taylor, and, in a well worked routine, the ball was sent back to McKee who completed his hat-trick with a simple slap hit at the near post.

Down continue to impress in this league, this is testament to the commitment the players are making at training. All players are reminded that training takes place at Comber on Tuesday evenings at 7pm, all are welcome to attend.
