A single goal was enough to hand Down thirds all three points in this Junior 7 clash.

Played at The Glade last Friday night, the locals were able to travel with an experienced side, with Brian Hagan's non-stop running a feature of Down's play.

He covered every inch of the pitch and was instrumental in paving the way for his side's much-needed win which also secured three very welcome points.

Gary Brown had an outstanding game in the middle of the park, while Clifford Lennon, Stephen Moffett and Mark Graham were Down's other top performers.

Robert Hagan coped with everything fired at him in the Down goal and the visitors' ability to soak-up pressure frustrated the home forwards on countless occasions.

David Ferris also had a terrific game for Down and his non-stop running caused panic in the Mossley defence on more than one occasion.

Brian Hagan was unlucky not to fire his side into the lead when he almost produced a goal from a half chance and minutes later he tested the Mossley 'keeper again. The same player then saw a shot strike the base of the post and rebound to safety.

At the other end, Philip Brown was in commanding form at the heart of the Down defence and let nothing past him all night.

Down started the second period with the intention of making their superior play count and in the 49th minute, Hagan scored what proved to be the winner.

The ball was whipped into the penalty area by Graham and Hagan stopped it before crashing it past the 'keeper who was rooted to the spot.

The visitors continued to press, but Gary and Philip Brown and Clifford Lennon didn't stray too far forward to make sure Down weren't caught on the break.
