Down seconds defeated derby rivals Saintfield seconds in a five-goal thriller at The Demesne last weekend.

Down led 3-0 at the break following an impressive performance, but Saintfield hit back in the second period with two goals from Dougie Reid which made it a nervous few final minutes for the visitors.

Brown scored his first goal in the 12th minute when he kept his cool to beat Marty Johnston.

The experienced Trevor Lennon scored Down's second goal. Collecting the ball on the bye-line it looked as though there was no way to goal, but he somehow managed to drill the ball between Johnston and his near post.

The pace on the ball was such that Lennon's shot hit the back post before crashing into the net.

Things went from bad to worse for the home side when Brown scored his second of the game. Brown did the hard work to weave past Johnston and with the goal at his mercy he made no mistake.

Saintfield played with a lot of spirit in the second period and pulled two goals back through veteran striker Reid.

Jeremy McCready was in goal for the visitors and made a number of timely saves over the 70 minutes and kept his side in the game in the closing stages as Saintfield pressed forward in search of an equaliser.
