Ballynahinch are just 70 minutes away from a place in the semi-finals of the Linden Cup.

Their 4-1 win last weekend over derby rivals Down at Douglas Park in Newcastle means a win against Foyle this weekend will ensure Mark Graham's men book their place in the semi-finals of the competition for the second year in succession.

While Ballynahinch were virtually at full strength last Saturday, Down were missing a number of regulars whom they will want back in the team as they start their assault on the Senior Two title next month.

Last Saturday's derby clash wasn't a classic by any means and was marred by a nasty head injury Down skipper Jeremy McCready sustained which required five stitches.

Ballynahinch took the lead in the fifth minute when Alex Millar waited for Down 'keeper Mark Johnston to go to ground before under cutting the ball into the roof of the net.

Eight minutes Ballynahinch were firmly in the driving seat when Gary Graham scored from play to make it 2-0.

Down, who were unable to field a team against Foyle the previous weekend, were rusty and the fact they have been handed a free date this Saturday won't help their cause either.

Scott Leitch, who was making his Ballynahinch debut last Saturday, made it 3-0 for the home side minutes before the interval.

Millar completed his double in the second half when Mark Elliott pulled a goal back for Down who never really troubled Ballynahinch 'keeper Mark Brown much over the 70 minutes.

With the three points safely in the bag, Ballynahinch know a win this weekend against Foyle will see them reach the last four of the Linden Cup and the players thoughts may just turn to a possible appearance in the New Year's Day final.
